The Chosen Series Achieves Guinness World Record for Most Widely-Translated Streaming Program at 125 Languages
Edited by: Vera Mo
The streaming series *The Chosen*, which chronicles the life of Jesus Christ, has officially secured a new Guinness World Record for the most widely-translated streaming series globally, reaching 125 languages as of February 2026. This linguistic milestone surpasses the series' previous record of 86 languages, established in September 2025.
The translation initiative is managed by the Come and See Foundation, which acquired the intellectual property rights to the series in 2023. Creator and director Dallas Jenkins, alongside the foundation, maintains an objective to expand the show's availability into 600 languages, a target intended to make the narrative accessible to approximately 95% of the world's population. The series' humanistic portrayal of biblical figures, emphasizing relatable flaws and struggles, is credited with resonating deeply with diverse international audiences.
To maintain fidelity during this extensive localization effort, the Come and See Foundation employs a rigorous 'double layer' of theological analysis during both translation and dubbing processes. Wendi Lord, vice president of content localization, detailed that after an initial script pass by Hollywood studios, a pastor or theologian reviews the translation for biblical faithfulness, followed by a second theological review after actors record the dialogue. This meticulous approach is designed to ensure the narrative remains true to the biblical meaning, distinguishing it from standard localization practices.
Sustaining this global undertaking is supported by community funding, as the series remains entirely free to all viewers through global crowdfunding donations, bypassing conventional distribution channels. This funding structure began with the series becoming the most successful crowd-funded TV series in history. Mike Kennedy, vice president of marketing at Come and See, noted that seeing the gospel acted out in one's native tongue is significantly more impactful than relying on subtitles alone.
Production on the series continues, with Season 4 having premiered in 2024 and Season 5 launching in late 2025. The scope of future installments is substantial; the final episode of Season 6 is projected to carry a production cost of $30 million. Furthermore, Jenkins confirmed at ChosenCon 2026 in Charlotte, North Carolina, that the finale of Season 6 will be a supersized theatrical global event premiering in the spring of 2027, following the initial streaming release of episodes 1-6 on Prime Video in the fall.
Stan Jantz, CEO of the Come and See Foundation, has emphasized that the vision includes funding the entire seven-season run, ensuring the series remains free, and partnering with global ministries for distribution, aiming to introduce the 'authentic Jesus' to one billion people worldwide. This effort has already reached over 280 million viewers across more than 175 countries.
