2026 Ford Kuga PHEV: efficient power and driving technologies of a new generation

Ford is expanding its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology across its European vehicle line-up, with deployment scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026. This strategic integration of the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) will incorporate high-volume models, specifically the Puma, Kuga, and the Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). The system first appeared in Europe on the Mustang Mach-E in 2023, establishing the technological foundation for this broader rollout.

Ford has significantly expanded its lineup of vehicles equipped with the BlueCruise autonomous driving system.

The BlueCruise system operates under a "hands-off, eyes-on" mandate, utilizing integrated radars and cameras to manage steering, acceleration, and braking on pre-mapped routes. Drivers are required to maintain continuous visual attention, which is actively monitored by a driver-facing camera. Currently, Ford has secured regulatory approval to operate BlueCruise across 16 European nations, covering more than 84,000 miles, or approximately 135,000 kilometers, of designated motorway segments known as 'Blue Zones.'

The expansion signifies Ford's commitment to making advanced driving features accessible beyond initial electric or flagship vehicles. The functionality will be standard equipment on specific BlueCruise Edition trims for the Puma, Kuga, and the electric Puma Gen-E, which also requires the inclusion of the Driver Assistance Pack. This pack bundles features such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, automated lane-change assistance, and a 360-degree camera system. The electric Puma Gen-E is notable as it will become the smallest Ford model to feature BlueCruise capability upon its 2026 introduction.

Engineering enhancements planned for the electric Puma Gen-E project an electric driving range exceeding 400 kilometers in typical real-world conditions and over 550 kilometers for urban driving cycles. While included with the special editions, the system will be offered with a 90-day complimentary trial period, after which a recurring subscription fee will apply, mirroring the current structure for Mustang Mach-E owners. Specific pricing for the BlueCruise trims on the 2026 Puma, Kuga, and Ranger models has not yet been officially confirmed by Ford, with announcements expected closer to the spring 2026 market launch.

Visually, the BlueCruise Edition variants will feature distinct aesthetic treatments, including a specific Vapor Blue exterior paint finish contrasted with black accents on the roof, side mirrors, and alloy wheels. This integration across mainstream models signals Ford's intent to capture a substantial segment of the evolving European driver-assistance market by moving the technology toward broad consumer availability.
