Amazon Expands Proprietary Health AI Assistant to All U.S. Consumers

Amazon.com has expanded availability of its proprietary Health AI assistant to its entire customer base across the United States, effective Tuesday, March 10, 2026. This strategic deployment makes the tool accessible via the company's website and mobile application, transitioning it from a service previously exclusive to members of One Medical, the clinical services provider Amazon acquired in 2023, to the general consumer market.

The platform is engineered to manage initial triage and information dissemination for more than 30 distinct non-emergency medical conditions, ranging from common ailments such as acne and head lice to chronic issues like diabetes and sleep apnea. The core function of the Health AI assistant is to streamline informational bottlenecks in routine healthcare interactions. This includes allowing users to seek explanations for laboratory test results, inquire about medication interactions, and receive virtual assessments with subsequent treatment recommendations.

A defined operational boundary remains in place: the AI is explicitly barred from generating formal treatment plans. This ensures that more intricate or complex medical scenarios are promptly escalated to licensed human providers within the One Medical network. Andrew Diamond, Chief Medical Officer at Amazon One Medical, stated that the technology is intended to reduce logistical and informational friction for both patients and clinicians, reflecting a goal to optimize resource allocation within the healthcare delivery system.

This broader rollout follows the initial introduction of the Health AI exclusively for One Medical members in January 2026, marking a rapid scaling within the first quarter of the year. Amazon has established a tiered access structure to integrate the service with its premium offerings. Eligible Prime members utilizing the agent can access up to five complimentary direct message care visits with a One Medical provider, an introductory offer valid through 2026. Customers without Prime membership or One Medical affiliation face a standard consultation fee of $29 per provider visit if escalation beyond the AI's capabilities is required.

Concurrently, Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched Amazon Connect Health, a suite of agentic AI tools engineered to automate administrative workflows for healthcare organizations, indicating a parallel effort to improve provider-side efficiency. The AI assistant also allows users to optionally grant permission for analysis of personal medical data, including lab results and clinical notes, alongside their Amazon.com healthcare purchase history, underscoring a deep data integration strategy in the digital health ecosystem.

This market action positions Amazon as an increasingly assertive technology provider within healthcare, moving into direct patient engagement and provider support infrastructure. The decision to offer the base AI assistant without requiring Prime or One Medical membership suggests a strategic prioritization of widespread user adoption and the accumulation of diverse, real-world interaction data over immediate monetization of the initial AI service. This approach leverages the free AI access to drive Prime membership retention and One Medical enrollment through bundled provider visit incentives, utilizing the clinical foundation provided by the 2023 One Medical acquisition.
