Mercedes-Benz to Debut Revolutionary All-Electric VLE Van in March 2026
Edited by: Tetiana Pin
Mercedes-Benz has officially announced the upcoming premiere of its latest fully electric van, the VLE, scheduled for March 2026. This launch represents a pivotal milestone in the manufacturer's broader electrification roadmap. The VLE is set to be the inaugural model built upon the VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture), a sophisticated modular and scalable platform engineered exclusively for battery-electric vehicles. By moving away from internal combustion engine adaptations, this dedicated architecture allows for optimized space, efficiency, and performance across the commercial lineup.

The technical foundation of the VAN.EA platform is characterized by a clever three-module design that ensures maximum versatility. The front module houses the primary electric motor and the front axle, while the center module is standardized to accommodate various battery sizes and determines the vehicle's overall length. The rear module offers additional flexibility, allowing for the integration of a second motor to enable all-wheel-drive capabilities. Mercedes-Benz has already initiated the production of pre-series VLE prototypes, signaling that development is well underway for this next-generation commercial vehicle.
Positioned as the electric counterpart to the prestigious E-Class, the VLE is designed to eventually replace the current EQV model in the brand's portfolio. It will be offered solely as a battery-electric vehicle, catering to premium transport needs with interior configurations that can accommodate up to eight passengers. To ensure superior maneuverability in tight urban environments, the van is expected to feature rear-axle steering, which significantly reduces the turning radius. For those requiring enhanced traction and stability, the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system will be available as an optional upgrade.
Inside the cabin, the VLE will integrate the cutting-edge MB.OS operating system, serving as the backbone for its digital user experience and connectivity features. This technological push aligns with the company's ambitious commercial goals. Mercedes-Benz aims for electric models to account for 50% of its commercial van sales by the year 2030. While Europe remains the primary market, currently representing 60% of sales, the brand is actively looking to expand its footprint and strengthen its competitive position in both the United States and China.
In a separate but equally significant achievement for the brand, the new Mercedes-Benz CLA has been crowned "Car of the Year 2026" by a panel of European journalists. The CLA secured the top spot with a total of 320 points, finishing a substantial 100 points ahead of its closest rival, the Skoda Elroq. This prestigious accolade marks the first time Mercedes-Benz has won the award since 1974. Such a victory underscores the manufacturer's current innovative momentum and its successful transition toward a future defined by advanced electric mobility and digital excellence.
