Pasqal and True Nexus Partner to Model Protein Functionality Using Quantum Computing

Pasqal, a Paris-based firm specializing in neutral-atom quantum computing, has entered a strategic collaboration with True Nexus, a computational intelligence company based in Saudi Arabia. The partnership, announced on April 8, 2026, focuses on resolving a significant challenge in the alternative protein industry: the precise computational modeling of protein functionality, including characteristics like texture and gelatinization within food matrices.

The core objective of the joint effort is the development of a dynamic, three-dimensional model specifically engineered for protein gelation, a critical functional attribute in food science. This advanced model is designed to integrate multiple data streams, encompassing molecular structure, specific protein extraction parameters, processing conditions, and final application requirements. By utilizing Pasqal's neutral-atom quantum processors, the model aims to account for molecular interactions with a level of fidelity unattainable through conventional classical computing methods.

Dominik Grabinski, CEO of True Nexus, noted that a deficit in computational understanding has long constrained the industry’s ability to model protein behavior accurately. This collaboration seeks to shift the sector from iterative, trial-and-error experimentation toward a design-driven methodology for creating novel ingredients. Wasiq Bokhari, CEO of Pasqal, emphasized that quantum computing is necessary to address complexities that have previously limited innovation, positioning the work to create a more scalable pathway for sustainable protein development.

This quantum simulation approach targets the functional mechanics of proteins, moving beyond structure prediction, where classical artificial intelligence tools have made advances. True Nexus applies artificial intelligence and frontier computing to make protein functionality programmable, addressing a persistent gap in replacing components like gelatin. Pasqal, which is preparing for a public listing via a merger with Bleichroeder Acquisition Corp. II (Nasdaq: BBCQ), has previously applied its technology to complex simulation problems in materials science.

The long-term goal of this initiative is to establish a definitive reference model for protein functionality. Such a standardized model is intended to guide food and ingredient manufacturers in areas such as precision fermentation and the development of sustainable protein sources.
