TVRI Trains Students at Prabowo's People's Schools in Broadcasting Skills
Edited by: Olga Samsonova
A new educational collaboration is underway, marked by intensive broadcasting skills training for students at Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Atas (SRMA) 19 in Sonosewu, Bantul, within the Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) region. Lembaga Penyiaran Publik (LPP) TVRI conducted the specialized instruction on December 5, 2025, focusing on core competencies in presentation, video capture, and editing techniques for students enrolled at President Prabowo Subianto's Schools. These People's Schools are specifically established to serve underprivileged children, aligning with a national objective to democratize access to specialized vocational skills.
Iman Brotoseno, the President Director of LPP TVRI, stated that this initiative is a direct implementation of the program titled "TVRI Mengajar, Melayani Negeri." Brotoseno articulated that this program explicitly targets the equalization of opportunities for marginalized youth, ensuring they can participate meaningfully in burgeoning creative economies, such as the broadcasting sector. He noted that for many of these students, aspirations to become a director, producer, or cameraman in the television industry are now becoming tangible prospects, whereas they might have previously seemed unattainable.
As a Public Broadcasting Institution, TVRI is committed to delivering empowering programming, and this outreach supports the strategic vision to ensure equitable opportunities for all young Indonesians. To facilitate this educational effort, TVRI Yogyakarta provided SRMA 19 with essential production hardware, including a complete set of editing equipment, professional cameras, and necessary computer workstations. This infusion of technology proved immediately impactful; for instance, one student, Alwi Muhammad Ilham, operated a professional camera for the first time during the session and demonstrated rapid comprehension of features like lighting and various camera functions.
SRMA 19, which began operations in July 2025, currently enrolls approximately 200 students who reside in the school's dormitory facilities. The curriculum emphasizes character development, religious education, and technology integration, reflecting a holistic approach to student development. Agus Ristanto, the Head of SRMA 19, confirmed the overwhelmingly positive reception from the students to this specialized instruction. Given the high level of interest and engagement, this broadcasting training is scheduled to transition into a regular, weekly extracurricular activity at the school.
The commitment from TVRI to foster talent in regions like Yogyakarta is significant, as Yogyakarta is recognized as one of Indonesia's centers for filmmaking, alongside Jakarta and Makassar. Following this initial session, the program is slated to continue in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and Surabaya, East Java. This educational framework at SRMA 19, which emphasizes humanistic education, discipline, and social responsibility, aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals equipped with in-demand creative economy skills.
