Denza to Launch Z9GT Grand Tourer in Europe Featuring Ultra-Fast Flash Charging
Edited by: Aleksandr Lytviak
The premium electric vehicle marque Denza, a subsidiary of the BYD Group, is scheduled to formally introduce its flagship Z9GT Grand Tourer wagon to the European market on April 8, 2026, during an event in Paris, France. The presentation, set to occur at the Palais Garnier, signals a significant strategic move by BYD to compete directly with established luxury automakers such as Porsche and Mercedes-Benz within the continent's automotive sector.
The Z9GT is constructed upon the dedicated e3 platform, engineered specifically for Denza’s premium offerings to facilitate an optimized architecture capable of integrating advanced battery systems. The central feature of the European unveiling will be the debut of BYD's Flash Charging technology, which utilizes the second-generation LFP Blade battery. This system is specified to charge the vehicle from a 10% to a 70% state of charge in five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.
Further demonstrating its capability in varied conditions, the technology allows the battery to replenish from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes even when ambient temperatures are as low as -30ºC. This rapid replenishment capability is intended to address range anxiety, a persistent factor influencing the broader adoption of electric vehicles. The Z9GT is presented as a Grand Tourer wagon, sometimes referred to as a shooting brake, offering multiple power configurations.
The rear-wheel-drive variant is powered by a single electric motor producing 496 horsepower (370 kW) and is rated for a CLTC range of 1036 km, which is estimated to translate to between 800 km and 863 km under the more stringent WLTP cycle. For higher performance expectations, an all-wheel-drive configuration featuring a tri-motor setup delivers a combined output exceeding 1140 hp (approximately 850 kW), facilitating a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 2.7 seconds. Energy storage is provided by a second-generation Blade battery with a capacity reaching up to 122.5 kWh.
To compete with established European luxury brands, Denza is emphasizing the interior experience, which includes an immersive sound system developed in partnership with French audio specialist Devialet, incorporating Dolby Atmos technology for an "opera-house entertainment experience." The vehicle's design, which bears a profile reminiscent of the Porsche Panamera, was executed by former Alfa Romeo and Lamborghini designer Wolfgang Egger. Denza, which was previously a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz before BYD assumed majority control, is positioning the Z9GT as its flagship model to underscore its commitment to the premium segment.
Executive Vice President Stella Li has articulated that the Z9GT represents the brand's objective: technology that inspires, performance that excites, and elegance that defines future premium mobility. The rollout of Flash Charging infrastructure across Europe is expected to commence following the Z9GT's April 8 debut, building upon the thousands of stations already commissioned in China.
