Trump Nullifies Majority of Biden Acts Signed via Autopen Device

On Friday, November 28, 2025, United States President Donald Trump announced the termination of a substantial portion of official documents previously endorsed by Joe Biden using a mechanical signing apparatus known as the Autopen.

In a declaration disseminated across his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump asserted that approximately 92% of all official acts mechanically signed by Biden are now deemed invalid. Furthermore, Trump issued a stern warning, threatening to pursue legal action against Biden for perjury should the former president claim personal authorization for the Autopen’s use. The sitting head of state maintained that the “radical left lunatics” surrounding Biden at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office had effectively “stolen the presidency” from him. Consequently, Trump stated he was rescinding all executive orders and other instruments not personally signed.

This decisive action escalates the ongoing debate concerning the legitimacy of presidential signatures applied without the direct involvement of the head of state. Trump’s move is predicated on the assertion that the Biden administration engaged in the widespread and, in his view, unauthorized deployment of the mechanical device. Earlier, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer had connected the use of the Autopen to Biden’s supposed “cognitive decline.” Comer suggested that because Biden was 82 years old upon leaving office, he might not have been aware of the pardon documents he signed.

While an investigation initiated by House Republicans earlier in 2025, led by James Comer, uncovered only indirect evidence suggesting minimal personal involvement from Biden in the signing process, no direct proof of wrongdoing by his aides was definitively established. Despite this, the Department of Justice had previously affirmed the constitutionality of executive branch agencies using Autopens for routine correspondence. President Biden himself had justified the Autopen’s use by citing the necessity of expediting the processing of paperwork. It is worth noting that the Autopen has seen use under previous administrations; for instance, Barack Obama employed it in 2011 to swiftly sign the extension of provisions within the Patriot Act.

A cloud of legal uncertainty persists in this scenario, as signatures applied by an Autopen generally retain full legal standing until they are formally challenged or officially revoked. Trump’s maneuvers, aimed at restoring what he terms “legality and transparency,” are setting the stage for a fresh round of legal confrontations.
