Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold with 10-Inch Display Amidst Market Shifts
Edited by: Tetiana Pin
Samsung Electronics officially presented the Galaxy Z TriFold on December 2, 2025, marking an aggressive move to solidify its position in the multi-folding smartphone sector. The new device employs a sophisticated inward-folding mechanism utilizing three distinct panels, which unfolds to reveal an expansive 10-inch main display.
Executive Vice President Alex Lim, present at the unveiling, underscored Samsung's commitment to technological differentiation within the evolving mobile landscape. The company has explicitly categorized the device as a "special edition" product, suggesting the launch is primarily a demonstration of engineering capability rather than an immediate pursuit of high-volume sales.
The initial market rollout is strategically phased, beginning in key Asian markets on December 12, 2025, with availability planned for South Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. Consumers in the United States are scheduled to receive the device during the first quarter of 2026, spanning January through March. When folded, the device maintains usability through a 6.5-inch cover screen, balancing portability with the tablet-like experience of the main screen when deployed.
Technically, the Galaxy Z TriFold represents a significant advancement in mobile hardware design. The device achieves a profile of 3.9mm at its thinnest point when fully opened, despite integrating a substantial 5,600 mAh three-cell battery. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, selected to manage the demands of the 10-inch display, which features a resolution of 2160 x 1584 pixels. The unit weighs 309 grams, pushing the physical limits of current smartphone engineering due to the integration of a second hinge mechanism.
This introduction occurs as industry projections indicate that Apple may potentially surpass Samsung in global smartphone shipments for the entirety of 2025, intensifying competitive pressure. The development follows persistent industry rumors regarding Samsung's triple-hinge device, driven by the necessity to counter market share gains by Chinese manufacturers, such as Huawei, which introduced its own triple-fold device the previous year. Samsung's decision to omit the S Pen from the TriFold, mirroring the recently announced Galaxy Z Fold 7 in July 2025, suggests a deliberate segmentation of its premium foldable portfolio, positioning the TriFold for enhanced productivity and media consumption on its large screen.
The engineering achievement of integrating a second hinge and a high-capacity battery into the slim 3.9mm form factor positions the TriFold as a benchmark for future foldable device development. The market will closely observe the reception of this specialized hardware as Samsung navigates a period of intense rivalry and market transition.
