PwC Integrates Financial Literacy into Danish Schools Through 'Together for the Future' Initiative
Edited by: Olga Samsonova
Throughout 2025, the corporation PwC is actively embedding practical personal finance management skills into the curriculum of Danish schools. This effort is part of a nationwide engagement program titled 'Purpose Day – Sammen om fremtiden' (Together for the Future). The cornerstone of this initiative is the 'Ung privatøkonomi' (Young Personal Economics) project. This educational framework concentrates on essential personal finance topics, including budgeting, saving strategies, and the responsible use of credit.
The core aim of this educational approach is to equip young people with the necessary tools for making sound financial decisions later in life, addressing a significant societal need. PwC, which maintains offices in Hellerup (Copenhagen area), Aarhus, and Esbjerg, is demonstrating a systematic commitment to boosting financial awareness across Denmark. The 'Ung privatøkonomi' project specifically targets the prevention of early financial struggles by providing students with hands-on exercises, such as calculating interest and developing personal budgets.
Specific activities under this program have already taken place in several educational institutions. For instance, at Ådal Skole in Ganløse, PwC staff conducted a full-day course for 8th-grade students in October 2025, followed by another session for 9th graders on November 24, 2025. The school's teacher, Julie Kolberg Ehlers, highlighted the practical value of the material, emphasizing how crucial it is for young people to understand the distinctions between long-term savings and quick-fix loans. Similar outreach sessions were organized in Aarhus during September 2025 and in Esbjerg in May 2025.
Flemming Eghoff, a Partner at PwC in Hellerup, expressed strong confidence that this project significantly enhances students' resilience against future economic uncertainties. PwC is dedicated to offering these educational resources free of charge to all schools in Denmark. This aligns perfectly with the firm's overarching mission: fostering societal trust and tackling important community challenges. The 'Purpose Day – Sammen om fremtiden' initiative encourages every employee to dedicate one workday annually to community service, with this year's focus being on creating better opportunities for children and youth.
As part of this broader undertaking, PwC is collaborating with several national non-profit organizations. The collective goal is to contribute over 15,000 hours of support aimed at strengthening youth competencies, encompassing areas like self-organization and digital skills. The 'Ung privatøkonomi' project extends beyond single-day intensive workshops; it also features three-week learning cycles culminating in a final stage where students utilize a specially designed game to solidify their understanding of concepts like interest rates, statistics, saving, and personal leadership. The urgency of these educational programs is underscored by statistics showing that approximately 35,000 young adults aged 18 to 30 years had issues noted on their credit histories as of January 2025.
