世界氣象組織確認美國出現破紀錄閃電
世界氣象組織（WMO）於7月31日正式認證了一項新的世界紀錄，確認一道發生在美國的閃電長度達到829公里 。
這道「超級閃光」發生於2017年10月22日，橫跨德克薩斯州東部至堪薩斯城附近 。
此紀錄打破了2020年4月在美國南部所創下的768公里紀錄 。
閃電的潛在危險
世界氣象組織指出，這種超長閃電可能極度危險且難以預測，尤其是在人們對長距離雷擊毫無準備的地區.
氣象學家正努力將閃電偵測整合到先進天氣預警系統中，目標是到2027年能更快地向偏遠地區發出警報.

- 最長持續時間的閃電：2020年6月在烏拉圭和阿根廷上空持續了17.1秒 。
- 間接雷擊造成最多死亡人數：1994年埃及Dronka發生雷擊，引燃油罐，造成469人死亡 。
