Bamboo Seeds: A New Frontier in Health

Відредаговано: Vera Mo

Vadodara, India - Recent research has unveiled the remarkable health benefits of bamboo seeds, traditionally consumed by tribal communities for generations. Scientists have confirmed that the seeds of Bambusa arundinacea are rich in flavonoids and quinones, compounds known for their cancer-preventing and heart-protective properties.

Professor M. Daniel, former head of the botany department at M. S. University, emphasized the untapped potential of these seeds, which contain a significantly higher concentration of flavonoids—ten times more than common grains like rice and wheat. His team identified 14 distinct compounds, including nine flavonoids such as tricin, apigenin, and luteolin, which are recognized for their antioxidant capabilities.

These findings suggest that bamboo seeds could play a crucial role in health and nutrition, particularly in the prevention of diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's. Currently, the seeds grow wild and are processed into various products, including milled bamboo seeds and bamboo seed oil. As interest in alternative grains rises, bamboo seeds may soon take their place alongside more commonly consumed grains.
