BYD recently presented its second-generation Blade Battery, incorporating the proprietary FLASH Charging Technology, marking a notable advancement in electric vehicle energy replenishment. Announced with data points referencing early March 2026 and February 2026, the development signals a potential shift in the pace of EV energy transfer and related infrastructure planning, with initial deployment centered on the Chinese market following announcements involving Shenzhen and London.
The core technical achievement of the FLASH Charging Technology is its capacity for rapid energy restoration under controlled conditions. The system is engineered to charge the battery from a 10 percent State of Charge (SOC) to 70 percent SOC in just five minutes. Furthermore, the technology maintains performance in low temperatures, achieving a charge from 20 percent to 97 percent SOC in 12 minutes while operating at minus 30 degrees Celsius.
This technological focus directly addresses two primary consumer concerns regarding electric mobility: range anxiety and the degradation of charging speeds in cold weather. BYD Chairman and President, Wang Chuanfu, stated that these capabilities are specifically designed to resolve these consumer hesitations, positioning the technology as a solution for broader mass-market adoption. This introduction occurs as BYD contends with intense domestic competition characterized by aggressive price adjustments among New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturers.
Market figures from February 2026 illustrate this competitive environment, showing a 41.1 percent year-on-year decline in domestic NEV sales, juxtaposed against a 50.1 percent year-on-year increase in export volume for the same month.
