Edited by: Tatyana Hurynovich
Emma Stone is set to lead Yorgos Lanthimos' upcoming English-language sci-fi thriller, "Bugonia." The film, a remake of the 2003 South Korean cult classic "Save the Green Planet!", is scheduled for a limited release on October 24, 2025, with a wider release following on October 31, 2025.
"Bugonia" features Stone as Michelle Fuller, the CEO of a prominent medical company. Her character is abducted by employees who believe she is an alien orchestrating Earth's destruction. This role is anticipated to showcase Stone's versatility, building on her acclaimed performances in films like "La La Land," "Easy A," and "Poor Things."
Yorgos Lanthimos, known for his distinctive style characterized by dark humor and surrealism, directs "Bugonia." His previous collaborations with Stone, including "The Favourite" and "Poor Things," have garnered critical acclaim. The film's screenplay is penned by Will Tracy, who also wrote for "Succession" and "The Menu."
The ensemble cast of "Bugonia" includes Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Alicia Silverstone, and Stavros Halkias. The original "Save the Green Planet!" was directed by Jang Joon-hwan and explored themes of delusion and paranoia. The remake is expected to retain the core narrative while infusing it with Lanthimos's signature unconventional approach.
