Lauren Sanchez Expresses Desire for Child with Jeff Bezos After Venice Wedding

Edited by: Tatyana Hurynovich

Journalist and media personality Lauren Sanchez, age 56, recently stated her strong desire to have another child with her husband, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Sanchez conveyed this eagerness in an interview with The New York Times, expressing a wish for a baby "tomorrow," although a representative later clarified that she is not presently pregnant. This public indication of family expansion interest follows the couple's multi-day wedding celebration, which took place in Venice, Italy, between June 26 and June 28, 2025.

The couple manages a blended family that includes seven children from their previous marriages. Jeff Bezos, divorced from MacKenzie Scott in 2019, has four children: three sons and one adopted daughter from China. Sanchez, born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in December 1969, has three children: Nikko Gonzalez, Evan, and Ella, from her prior marriage to Patrick Whitesell, which also concluded in 2019. Sanchez has previously described the coordination of their co-parenting as akin to "the Brady Bunch."

The wedding served as a significant convergence for the extended family. Sanchez highlighted that the speeches delivered by all seven children—hers and Bezos's—constituted the "most meaningful and impactful moment" of the ceremony. A notable moment involved her son Evan, who is dyslexic, sharing his personal achievement of writing his first sentence, "I can do this," a phrase Sanchez subsequently displayed in their kitchen. Sanchez is also a licensed pilot and founded the aerial film company Black Ops Aviation. She flew to space with Blue Origin in April 2025 and authored the 2024 New York Times bestseller, "The Fly Who Flew to Space."

The lavish Venice nuptials reportedly incurred costs between $64 million and $76 million, with celebrations held at historic locations such as the island of San Giorgio Maggiore and the Arsenale shipyard. In a gesture toward the local community, over 80% of the wedding provisions were sourced from Venetian vendors, and the couple requested donations to the UNESCO Venice office in lieu of gifts. Beyond the public event, Sanchez has emphasized the personal connection with her husband, referring to him as her "best friend" and detailing shared routines, including waking at 6 a.m. to list things they are grateful for and playing pickleball six times weekly.

This focus on unity occurs as the family anticipates a potential empty-nest phase, with Sanchez's youngest child, daughter Ella Whitesell, preparing for college. Despite the spokesperson's clarification, Sanchez's emphatic statement regarding a new baby underscores a continued commitment to building their life as a cohesive unit within their blended family structure. Jeff Bezos is also involved in philanthropic work through the Bezos Family Foundation, co-founded with his mother, Jackie Bezos, and stepfather, Miguel Bezos.
