Scientists reveal how to cut onions without crying

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

Scientists at Cornell University have discovered a simple method to cut onions without tears. The key is using a sharp knife and cutting slowly. This reduces the amount of irritating onion juice released into the air. Sharper knives prevent the onion from being crushed, which forces juice out. Slower cutting speeds also minimize juice generation, further reducing eye irritation. This technique minimizes the spread of airborne pathogens in kitchens, especially when cutting vegetables with tough outer layers.
