Ryan Gosling is confirmed to star in Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy. The announcement was made at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, where Gosling made a surprise appearance.
The film is a standalone story set approximately five years after Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, exploring a new period and characters in the Star Wars universe. Levy mentioned the film is not a prequel or sequel, but a new adventure.
Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027, coinciding with the 50th anniversary week of 'A New Hope'. Production is set to begin in the fall. Jonathan Tropper is the screenwriter for the film. Mikey Madison reportedly declined a role in the movie.
