The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA) of Nicaragua has taken a significant step in wildlife conservation by implementing an innovative monitoring system. This system involves the strategic installation of 60 camera traps across 21 protected areas in the country.

In 2024, this technological advancement, equipped with motion sensors, has enabled the documentation and study of 29 emblematic species of the nation's fauna, including important records of the mountain lion, ocelot, spider monkey, deer, and peacock.

These findings confirm the excellent state of conservation of Nicaragua's ecosystems and natural heritage. The initiative goes beyond data collection, incorporating local development through training for families, specialists, and members of the Guardabarranco Environmental Movement. This strengthens community capacities in utilizing environmental monitoring technologies.

This project marks a significant achievement in conservation policies implemented by the Government of National Reconciliation and Unity, reaffirming Nicaragua's commitment to protecting 7% of the world's biodiversity found within its borders. The use of technological tools allows for more precise and effective monitoring of wildlife in their natural habitats.
