Telegram Reports $1 Billion Revenue in 2024, Achieves Profitability

Telegram's founder, Pavel Durov, announced on December 25, 2024, that the instant messaging platform has achieved profitability, with revenue exceeding $1 billion this year.

The company’s premium subscription service, launched in 2022, has seen subscribers triple to over 12 million. Durov stated that Telegram is concluding the year with more than $500 million in cash reserves, excluding crypto assets.

In a post on X, Durov detailed the company’s financial achievements, noting significant increases in ad revenue and a meaningful share of debt repayment this fall. He emphasized the importance of innovations in monetization, which include features like Stars, Gifts, and Telegram Mini Apps.

Telegram has also enhanced its content moderation efforts, blocking 15.4 million groups and channels in 2024 to address issues related to harmful content. The platform has implemented advanced AI moderation tools, removing millions of pieces of content that violate its Terms of Service.
