Google Secures 250MW Renewable Energy Deal in Netherlands

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Dec. 18, 2024 – Google has signed a 250MW power purchase agreement with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to source renewable energy from the Zeevonk project in the Netherlands for the next 15 years.

The Zeevonk initiative, a collaboration between Vattenfall and CIP, combines offshore wind, solar energy, and green hydrogen. It features a 2 GW offshore wind farm and a 50MW floating solar facility located 62 km off the Dutch coast, with operations expected to commence in 2029.

Adam Elman, Director of Sustainability EMEA at Google, emphasized the significance of this partnership in achieving the company's goal of operating on 24/7 Carbon Free Energy (CFE) by 2030. He noted that the collaboration will contribute to the Dutch energy transition and support hydrogen production through electrolyzers.

Felix Pahl, partner at CIP, expressed enthusiasm for the agreement, highlighting its role in advancing renewable energy solutions and supporting local growth. CIP's Energy Transition Fund I is recognized as the largest dedicated greenfield green hydrogen fund globally, with 6.5 GW of electrolyser capacity under development.
