Google Unveils AI Agent Mariner for Online Tasks

編集者: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Google has introduced Mariner, an AI agent prototype capable of autonomously performing online tasks such as shopping and managing spreadsheets. This development, based on the company's Gemini 2.0 technology, represents a significant leap in AI capabilities.

Mariner allows users to input requests into their web browser, enabling the AI to take actions on their behalf. For instance, it can fill a shopping cart with groceries, but users must finalize the purchase, keeping a human in the loop.

The Gemini system, a neural network that learns from diverse data, enhances Mariner's functionality by enabling it to understand and interact with various online services. Google aims to integrate this technology into its Chrome browser, aligning with its vision of a universal assistant.

However, challenges remain, including potential legal issues regarding Chrome's monopoly status and the inherent inaccuracies of AI systems. Mariner is currently being tested by a select group, with no public release date announced yet.

Additionally, Google showcased Project Astra, a more advanced smartphone digital assistant that responds to images and text, further expanding its AI offerings.
