Madrid Hosts XXI International Architecture Week Featuring Peru's Architectural Heritage, October 4-17, 2024

The XXI International Architecture Week is taking place in Madrid from October 4 to 17, 2024, featuring nearly 300 activities aimed at celebrating architectural heritage, with Peru and Lima as the guest country and city. Organized by the Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM) and the Architecture Foundation COAM, this initiative aims to bring architecture closer to society and highlight the architectural value of the city.

Throughout the two-week event, attendees can explore exhibitions, workshops, and conferences. Notable exhibitions include 'Le fil rouge. Renzo Piano Building Workshop,' showcasing the works of renowned architect Renzo Piano, and 'Lima húmeda. Paisajes metropolitanos a través de los ciclos,' which reflects on the urbanization history of Lima. Additionally, 57 historically significant buildings will open their doors to the public, offering guided tours led by architects.

In parallel, the Vila Joiosa is hosting a festival that celebrates its maritime architectural heritage. The event features artistic interventions, workshops, and guided tours of 15 architecturally significant homes, showcasing the region's rich cultural and historical tapestry. This initiative aims to revitalize the historic center, recognized as a Cultural Heritage site, and promote the traditional craft of net making that has shaped the town's identity.

Both events underscore the importance of architecture in connecting communities with their cultural heritage, fostering a dialogue between past and present, and enhancing urban spaces for future generations.
