The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has announced the likelihood of one or two mild to moderate cold waves affecting the western and northern regions of the country in the latter half of December 2024. Mild cold waves are characterized by temperatures ranging from 8.1 to 10 degrees Celsius, while moderate cold waves can see temperatures fall between 6.1 and 8 degrees Celsius.
In its monthly weather outlook, BMD has also indicated the potential development of one or two low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas this month. There is a possibility that one of these systems may strengthen into a depression or cyclone.
Additionally, river basin areas are expected to encounter moderate to dense fog from midnight until morning, with other regions experiencing moderate fog. Rainfall is anticipated to remain within normal levels for December, according to the BMD.
