TikTok Resumes Services in the U.S. After Brief Suspension

On January 20, 2025, TikTok began restoring its services in the United States following a brief suspension due to the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Application Act (PAFACAA), signed by President Donald Trump.

The app, operated by Chinese company ByteDance, was temporarily unavailable for over 12 hours, disappearing from both the App Store and Google Play. The law allows restrictions on applications controlled by foreign entities deemed a threat to U.S. national security.

After Trump's intervention, TikTok announced on its official account on platform X that it is working with service providers to resume operations. The company expressed gratitude to Trump for providing transparency to service providers, ensuring they would not face sanctions for continuing to offer TikTok to over 170 million Americans and supporting more than 7 million small businesses.

TikTok stated its commitment to collaborating with Trump on a long-term solution to maintain its presence in the U.S.
