The Slovenian government has announced a new financial literacy program aimed at integrating financial education into primary and secondary school curricula. Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič emphasized the importance of including financial literacy as a standalone subject or as part of existing subjects, with a minimum of 35 hours dedicated to the topic.

This initiative is designed to equip citizens with the necessary skills to make informed financial decisions, reducing their susceptibility to fraud and better preparing them for unexpected events. The success of the program will be continuously monitored and adjusted as needed.

The program was developed by an interdepartmental working group, which included representatives from various ministries, the Bank of Slovenia, and other financial regulatory agencies. The initiative also targets small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them with essential financial knowledge to enhance their operations.

A significant aspect of the program is the establishment of an online platform dedicated to financial literacy, with content tailored to different age groups and businesses. An editorial board appointed by the government will oversee the development of this content. Additionally, a special council for financial literacy will be formed, consisting of a diverse range of stakeholders.
