Russian and Djiboutian Officials Discuss Interparliamentary Cooperation

Moscow, Russia - Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin met with Dileita Mohamed Dileita, President of the National Assembly of Djibouti, in Moscow on Monday to discuss interparliamentary cooperation and upcoming diplomatic engagements.

Volodin emphasized Moscow's commitment to deepening relations with African nations, stating that it remains a key foreign policy priority. He highlighted that Russia's engagement with African countries is based on friendship, non-interference, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Volodin referenced the declaration from the second Russia-Africa summit in 2023, where President Vladimir Putin and African leaders aimed to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation. He stressed the importance of legislative implementation of agreements reached by state leaders.

Dileita affirmed the purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations between the State Duma and the National Assembly, as well as to improve the overall relationship between the two countries.

Volodin invited Dileita and a delegation of Djiboutian parliamentarians to the International Conference on 'Development of Parliamentarism' in Moscow this summer. In January, Valentina Matviyenko announced upcoming visits from Djibouti and Libya. In December 2024, African parliamentarians, including representatives from Djibouti, visited the Saur-Grave memorial complex in the DPR to honor fallen soldiers.
