AI and Gen AI Transform Cybersecurity Landscape

Paris, November 19, 2024 - A new report from the Capgemini Research Institute reveals that artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (Gen AI) are reshaping cybersecurity strategies for organizations worldwide.

While these technologies introduce new vulnerabilities, they also promise enhanced threat detection and response capabilities. Two-thirds of organizations are prioritizing AI in their security operations, acknowledging its role in mitigating sophisticated cyber threats.

The report indicates that 97% of surveyed organizations experienced security breaches related to Gen AI in the past year, highlighting the risks of data poisoning and sensitive data leakage. Additionally, over 40% reported financial losses due to deepfakes.

Despite these challenges, organizations are increasingly relying on AI for proactive defense strategies. More than 60% of respondents noted a reduction in threat detection time after implementing AI in their security operations centers.

Marco Pereira, Global Head of Cybersecurity at Capgemini, emphasized the dual nature of AI, stating, 'While it introduces unprecedented risks, organizations are increasingly relying on AI for faster and more accurate detection of cyber incidents.'

As organizations adapt to this evolving landscape, continuous monitoring, robust data management, and employee training are essential for leveraging AI's full potential in cybersecurity.
