This extraordinary animal gets its name from two large fins that resemble the floppy ears of Disney’s famous flying elephant. Unlike most of its octopus relatives, the Dumbo octopus does not rely on jet propulsion for movement. Instead, it elegantly glides through the water, gently flapping its “ears” while steering with its tentacles and siphon.
