Bhutan Launches Gold-Backed Digital Currency TER on Solana Network

The Kingdom of Bhutan has formally introduced the Tokenized Gold (TER), an innovative digital financial instrument fully collateralized by the nation's physical gold reserves. This pioneering initiative is managed by the Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Administrative Region, marking a strategic move by Bhutan to integrate traditional wealth with modern digital asset infrastructure.

TER, a name derived from the Dzongkha word for "treasure," operates on the Solana blockchain infrastructure, chosen for its high throughput and low operational costs. This strategic selection aims to leverage rapid transaction settlement speeds to gain a competitive advantage in the rapidly expanding Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization market. The management of this new digital asset falls under strict oversight, with DK Bank, Bhutan's first licensed digital bank, serving as the exclusive custodian and distributor during the initial issuance period. DK Bank operates under the regulation of both the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan and the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority, ensuring a robust compliance framework.

Matrixdock is responsible for the underlying tokenization technology and the critical reserve certification process, utilizing the efficiency of the Solana network. Every TER token carries a 100% backing ratio, meaning each unit is redeemable for physical gold bullion, sourced ethically and stored securely in designated vaults.
