On December 18 each year, the world celebrates Arabic Language Day, recognized as a vital component of cultural diversity and a significant addition to linguistics. Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, addressed students and the educational community on this occasion.

Dr. Mahafzah emphasized the importance of the Arabic language, spoken daily by over 400 million people. He stated, “We are certain that it is a language deeply rooted in history and preserved for the future.” He also referred to it as an identity and a vessel for thought, literature, and science.

He noted that the Arabic language gains its significance from being the language of the Holy Quran, serving as a strong bond that supports communication among Arab nations. It illuminates their consciousness, reflects their identity, and shapes their character.

In his speech, Dr. Mahafzah highlighted that the Arabic language has historically been a medium for scientific and global communication, bridging vast geographies. He mentioned that it has influenced numerous cultures across the globe, particularly during the Renaissance by facilitating the transfer of Greek and Roman knowledge to Europe.

The Ministry of Education is committed to promoting the Arabic language, having adopted advanced curricula that cover all educational stages while preserving cultural heritage. The Minister expressed confidence in the dedication of teachers and the creative potential of students, stating, “We trust that they can weave an endless array of literary and scientific creativity based on 28 letters.”
