On June 24, 2025, Hospital PUC-Campinas successfully performed its first artificial heart implant in an adult patient in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil.
Susy Iona da Silva, 42, received the device after being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition affecting heart function. The five-hour procedure was conducted by a multidisciplinary team of approximately 20 professionals.
The implanted artificial heart is a mechanical device that replaces the functions of the left side of the heart. This technology has proven effective in prolonging the lives of patients with severe heart failure.
