The University of Alcalá (UAH) continues its commitment to biodiversity, expanding its 'Synergistic Forests' project in Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura throughout 2025. This initiative focuses on improving wildlife habitats within these regions.
Supported by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), the project addresses the critical issue of habitat scarcity in homogeneous forests. These forests often lack the diverse structures needed for wildlife to thrive.
The project involves installing wildlife shelters, including nest boxes for birds and bat houses, in areas where mature trees are lacking. The project also incorporates innovative methods to create cavities and refuges in existing dead trees, and even in exotic species, providing enhanced breeding and shelter opportunities for a variety of animal species. These efforts aim to bolster local fauna populations and improve vital ecosystem services.
