Budapest, May 22, 2025 - President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey's dedication to enhancing relations with Turkic states at a recent summit in Budapest, which concluded on May 21, 2025. The summit facilitated discussions on strengthening collaboration and tackling regional and global issues.

During the summit, Erdoğan highlighted the importance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus's participation as an observer, emphasizing Turkic solidarity. He also reiterated Turkey's commitment to ensuring the rights of Cypriot Turks and supporting a resolution based on existing realities.

Domestically, Erdoğan addressed ongoing discussions about a new constitution, clarifying it is for the country's benefit, not personal gain. Furthermore, he touched upon efforts to combat terrorism, expressing hope for a terror-free Turkey following the PKK's announcement on May 12, 2025, that it would disband. However, on May 22, 2025, Erdoğan stated he would not seek re-election, despite earlier suggestions of a possible constitutional amendment to allow a fourth term. He emphasized the need for a new, civilian constitution, not one written by coup plotters.
