Brussels, October 26, 2024 - Eurostat has released its 2024 statistics on income and living conditions in the European Union.
The data reveals that Turkey has the highest poverty risk rate in Europe at 22.2%, impacting approximately 18.675 million people.
Following Turkey are Bulgaria (21.7%) and Latvia (21.6%), while the lowest rates are in Czechia (9.5%), Belgium (11.5%), and Denmark (11.6%).
The youth population is also significantly affected, with a 21.2% poverty risk rate among 15-24 year olds in Turkey, exceeding both the EU and Eurozone averages.
Luxembourg (32.7%), Norway (29.7%), and Bulgaria (26.6%) have the highest youth poverty risk, while Slovenia (9.3%), Cyprus (11.1%), and Ireland (11.3%) have the lowest.
The EU poverty risk rate remained stable at 16.2% in 2023, with a projected decrease to 16.1% for 2025.
These figures highlight income inequality and social vulnerability in Turkey, with high youth poverty rates posing a significant challenge for future generations.
