EU Unveils Space Act to Unify Sector Regulations

Edited by: S Света

Brussels, June 25, 2025 – The European Commission introduced the Space Act, a legislative framework aimed at harmonizing regulations within the EU's space sector.

The Act seeks to make the European space sector cleaner, safer, and more competitive in both domestic and global markets. This initiative addresses the current fragmented system of space rules across member states, which has hindered innovation and increased costs.

Key provisions include rules for tracking space objects, mandatory safe de-orbiting of satellites, and cybersecurity protocols to protect space infrastructure. The Act also introduces measures to control the environmental impact of space activities, focusing on emissions and waste reduction.

The regulations will apply to all EU space operators and foreign companies providing services in the European market. The Commission also presented a vision for the European space economy to address international competition and geopolitical tensions.
