Cairo, May 21, 2025 – The European Union and Egypt have officially extended their Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) agreement until 2027. The agreement was signed in Cairo by Dr. Abdel Hamid El Zoheiry, Egypt's national PRIMA coordinator, and Nienke Buisman, Head of the International Cooperation Unit at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.
This extension reaffirms Egypt's active participation in PRIMA calls for proposals from 2025 to 2027. The initiative underscores the strategic importance of PRIMA in addressing critical global challenges, with a particular focus on water scarcity and food security within the Mediterranean region.
The signing ceremony coincided with the launch of the Horizon Europe 2025 work program in Cairo, highlighting collaborative opportunities and funding prospects. The event, organized by the EU Delegation to Egypt, in partnership with Egypt's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, welcomed over 150 Egyptian academics, researchers, and innovators.
