World Bank Resumes Lending to Uganda After Anti-LGBTQ Law Suspension

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Washington, D.C. - The World Bank has decided to resume lending to Uganda.

This decision follows the suspension of loans in 2023 due to the enactment of an anti-LGBTQ law in the East African country. The World Bank stated that mitigation measures implemented in ongoing projects are now deemed satisfactory.

The lender worked with the Ugandan government and other stakeholders to introduce and test measures to prevent discrimination in World Bank-funded projects.
