On June 3, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed it executed an operation damaging the Kerch Strait Bridge, also known as the Crimean Bridge. This marks the third Ukrainian strike on the bridge, but the first known underwater attack. The SBU reported the operation targeted the bridge's underwater supports with explosives planted at 4:44 a.m.
According to the SBU, approximately 1,100 kg of TNT equivalent were used, causing significant damage to the underwater support pillars. The SBU stated that the bridge is now in critical condition and emphasized that no civilians were harmed during the attack. The attack has disrupted a key supply route for Russian forces.
The Crimean Bridge, constructed by Russia between 2017 and 2020, serves as a vital logistical link to the occupied Crimean Peninsula. The head of the SBU, Vasyl Maliuk, stated, "God loves the Trinity, and the SBU always finishes what it starts and never repeats itself," referencing previous attacks in 2022 and 2023.
