Hamburg Airport Operations Suspended Due to Spontaneous Strike; Verdi Announces Wider Strike Action at German Airports

Hamburg Airport suspended operations with immediate effect on Sunday due to a spontaneous strike by ground staff. The walkout, occurring hours before a planned 24-hour strike, led to the cancellation of almost all flights to and from the airport. Only 10 of the scheduled 144 arrivals and 139 departures operated as planned. The union Verdi has announced warning strikes at multiple German airports on Monday, including Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt/Main, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin-Brandenburg, and Leipzig-Halle. The action could affect over 510,000 travelers, with an estimated 3,400 flights potentially canceled.
