May 20, 2025, Netherlands: Haffner Energy's HYNOCA® biomass-based hydrogen production technology received the World Hydrogen Award. The award recognizes its selection for the Renewable Energy Valley project in Alkmaar, under the Horizon Europe-funded REFORMERS initiative.

HYNOCA-Alkmaar will use 6,500 tonnes of local residual biomass to produce 240 metric tonnes of mobility-grade green hydrogen annually. This will avoid 2,880 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The project is part of Europe's first Renewable Energy Valley, testing new renewable energy technologies.

The Alkmaar Renewable Energy Valley aims to create an energy hub for over 300 businesses and 3,000 households. The REFORMERS' initiative will be replicated in six other European locations.
