Geely Auto Group officially inaugurated its expansive Geely Safety Center in Ningbo, China, located within Hangzhou Bay, Zhejiang, on December 16, 2025. The company has declared the new facility to be the world's largest and most technologically advanced automotive safety testing complex.

The center occupies a land area of 45,000 square meters, established through an initial capital investment exceeding 2 billion Chinese Yuan, equivalent to approximately $290 million USD. This investment aligns with Geely's long-term commitment to research and development, which has seen over 250 billion RMB allocated to R&D, with vehicle safety consistently prioritized. The facility's scale and capabilities have secured five distinct Guinness World Records, including the largest automotive safety laboratory, spanning 81,930.745 square meters, and the longest indoor car crash test track at 293.39 meters in length.

Further recognized records include housing the largest altitude- and climate-adjustable wind tunnel, capable of simulating conditions such as snow, rain, and solar radiation at wind speeds up to 250 kilometers per hour. The center also features the largest arbitrary-angle crash test zone and offers the most comprehensive range of safety evaluations, totaling 27 distinct test types available within a single automaker's laboratory.

The center’s mandate supports Geely's 'Comprehensive Safety 2.0' philosophy, which targets 'zero casualties, zero health hazards, zero property losses, and zero privacy leaks' to address risks associated with intelligent and electrified vehicles. Testing capabilities now cover high-speed crash scenarios, pedestrian protection, active safety simulations, and critical evaluations of battery and new energy powertrain safety. An integrated cybersecurity testing capability, certified to CNAS standards, assesses vulnerabilities in chips, firmware, data transmission, and over-the-air updates.

Geely developed the benchmark facility by integrating safety expertise from its subsidiary, Volvo, including mature crash testing systems. The center is intended to serve the broader automotive sector, strengthening collaborations with entities like the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) and Tsinghua University, as evidenced by the joint release of the White Paper on the Development of Intelligent Vehicle Safety. Additionally, Geely's 'Golden Nose' team focuses on material health, ensuring vehicle interiors meet a 'zero harmful gas/odor' standard, positioning the center as a new global reference point for safety evaluation in the era of intelligent mobility.
