Incredibly small! SanDisk 1 TB USB-C SSD — you won't have to unplug it anymore.
SanDisk Launches Smallest 1TB USB-C Drive for Permanent Device Integration
Edited by: Tetiana Pin
SanDisk introduced the Extreme Fit USB-C Flash Drive in November 2025, positioning it as the world's most diminutive storage device capable of holding one terabyte of data. This release reflects an industry-wide trend toward extreme miniaturization in data storage, specifically targeting users of increasingly slender computing hardware such as the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and various USB-C equipped iPad models.
The physical design of the drive features a distinct, blocky or 'L' shape, measuring approximately 18.50 x 15.70 x 13.60 mm and weighing only about 3 grams, which facilitates its intended use as an unobtrusive, permanent connection solution. SanDisk terms this design a “plug-and-stay” option, engineered to remain connected even when devices are stowed away. The engineering achievement centers on integrating 1TB capacity into this minimal physical footprint.
Operationally, the drive utilizes the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, supporting transfer rates up to 5 Gbps. Models with 128 GB capacity and higher deliver sequential read speeds reaching 400 MB/s, while the 64GB variant has a slightly lower ceiling of 300 MB/s. This 400 MB/s read speed is sufficient for standard file transfers and backups, contrasting with older, bulkier storage solutions. This performance tier implicitly suggests the drive may not be optimal for sustained, power-intensive tasks like 4K video editing, where faster working drive speeds are typically preferred, especially when compared to products like the Extreme Pro Dual Drive, which leverages USB 3.2 Gen 2 for speeds up to 1,000 MB/s.
The Extreme Fit is engineered for broad compatibility, supporting Windows 10 or newer, macOS 12 or later, and iPadOS 15 or newer. To aid in managing the high-density storage, SanDisk incorporates support for its Memory Zone application on Windows and macOS platforms, which assists with file management, data restoration, and automated backups. Christina Garza, director of global brand management for SanDisk, stated that the drive addresses the requirement from professionals and students for storage that remains constantly accessible without frequent connection and disconnection.
In the broader market context, the global USB Flash Drives Market size was projected to reach USD 6142.8 million in 2025, with an anticipated Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8.00% through 2033, fueled by the demand for secure, portable storage. The 1TB model's pricing was reported in the US between approximately $109.99 and $119.99, presenting a potentially cost-effective alternative to internal storage upgrades of similar capacity. While the compact form factor minimizes the risk of physical damage from protrusion, its blocky design may potentially obstruct an adjacent port on certain desktop computer setups.
