Neuralink's Blindsight: Monkeys 'See' the Unseen

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

JAKARTA - Neuralink's brain implants allow monkeys to perceive things that aren't physically present. This breakthrough was revealed as part of Neuralink's efforts to aid the visually impaired.

The 'Blindsight' device stimulates the visual areas of the brain. During testing, monkeys moved their eyes towards objects their brains were tricked into visualizing.

Neuralink has published its first results on Blindsight, a brain chip mimicking eye function. This technology pushes the boundaries of how technology can treat difficult conditions.

The short-term goal of Blindsight is to restore sight, with a long-term aim of enabling 'superhuman' vision. Neuralink has tested Blindsight on monkeys and hopes to test it on humans. Five people have received Neuralink implants, with some using the devices for about 60 hours weekly.
