Mistral AI Launches Open-Source Reasoning Models

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

Mistral AI, based in France, has introduced its first European AI models designed for logical reasoning.

They have released open-source models, Magistral Small and Magistral Medium, for business use.

These models use chain-of-thought techniques to generate answers, demonstrating intermediate reasoning capabilities.

Mistral Small is available on Hugging Face and supports multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Simplified Chinese.

DeepSeek, a Chinese company, has also emerged as a competitor with its open-source AI models, including one for reasoning.

OpenAI and Google have previously launched reasoning models.

Meta Platforms, though offering open-source models, has not yet released a dedicated reasoning model, but claims its latest model has reasoning capabilities.
