Apple's 2025 Product Pipeline: M5 Chips Powering Next-Gen Devices

Edited by: Tetiana Pin

Apple is gearing up for a significant product refresh in late 2025, with a focus on its next-generation M5 processor across a range of devices.

The M5 chip is set to be a cornerstone of these new releases. Benchmarks suggest the M5 will offer substantial performance gains, particularly in graphics, with up to a 36% increase in GPU capabilities and a more modest 10-15% boost in CPU speeds compared to the M4. Early tests indicate a 9-core CPU configuration for the M5, with performance improvements that will be most noticeable for users upgrading from older M1 or M2 chips. The M5 processor is also expected to power the Apple Vision Pro 2, promising enhanced AI capabilities and overall performance improvements over the M2-equipped original. The MacBook Pro lineup will also see an M5 processor update, with a base version potentially introduced by the end of 2025, and more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max variants anticipated in early 2026.

The iPad Pro is slated to receive the M5 chip, featuring 12GB of RAM in standard configurations and potential design tweaks such as a "square" front camera sensor. The Apple TV 4K is expected to be upgraded with the A17 Pro processor, enabling support for Apple Intelligence and enhanced graphics with ray tracing. The HomePod mini 2 is rumored to include the S10 and N1 chips for improved wireless connectivity and faster operation, though it may not support Apple Intelligence due to memory limitations. The Apple TV 4K will also benefit from the N1 chip for stable network connections.

In other product news, the highly anticipated foldable iPhone is now expected to launch in 2027, with production potentially beginning in late 2025. This device is rumored to feature a book-style folding mechanism and internal screens ranging from 7.5 to 8 inches. The Apple Vision Pro 2 is expected to feature minor aesthetic refinements, such as a more comfortable head strap and a potential black color option, while continuing to target developers and early adopters with its premium pricing.
