Google Boosts Productivity with Independent Usage Limits for Gemini 3 Models

Google has implemented a significant structural update to its Gemini 3 ecosystem by decoupling the usage quotas for its specialized reasoning models. Previously, users operated under a "shared pool" system where prompts sent to different high-end models all depleted the same daily allowance. Responding to user feedback calling for greater transparency and precision, Google has replaced this shared system with independent model limits, allowing users to switch between tasks without one activity exhausting the quota for another.

The update specifically impacts the three distinct tiers of the Gemini 3 family available in the model picker:

• Fast: Optimized for near-instant responses via Gemini 3 Flash.
• Thinking: Designed to solve complex logical problems quickly using Gemini 3 Flash Thinking.
• Pro: Tailored for advanced mathematics, deep reasoning, and complex coding tasks via Gemini 3 Pro.

Under the new rules, subscribers to the AI Pro and AI Ultra tiers see a substantial increase in availability for the Thinking model. AI Pro members now have access to 300 Thinking prompts per day, while their separate Pro model limit remains at 100 prompts. For AI Ultra subscribers, the Thinking limit has tripled to 1,500 prompts per day, maintaining a distinct 500-prompt daily allowance for the Pro model. This change ensures that a developer spending the morning coding with the Pro model will still have their full Thinking quota available for problem-solving later in the day.

These independent quotas also extend to free users under "Basic access" designations, providing a more predictable experience across the entire user base. By removing the friction of shared limits, Google is positioning Gemini 3 as a more reliable daily driver for power users who require different specialized "reasoning" capabilities—those AI processes that allow a model to break down multi-step problems—throughout their workflow.
