Google NotebookLM: Data Tables and Export Support for Notes and Reports

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

In December 2025, Google Labs updated its AI-powered research assistant, NotebookLM, with a new capability to organize information into Data Tables. This update focuses on helping users synthesize scattered insights from their sources into structured formats that can be further edited and shared.

Organizing Insights with Data Tables

The new Data Tables feature allows NotebookLM to extract and categorize information across multiple uploaded documents. Instead of manually compiling facts from various PDFs or transcripts, users can prompt the AI to generate a table based on their sources.

Common Applications for Data Tables:

  • Meeting Management: Converting transcripts into tables of action items, categorized by owner and priority.
  • Research Synthesis: Tracking clinical trial outcomes, study years, and statistics across multiple academic papers.
  • Educational Support: Creating study tables of historical events organized by date, key figures, and consequences.
  • Comparative Analysis: Aggregating pricing, features, or estimated costs from different service providers or destinations.

Export Capabilities for Professional Workflows

To facilitate work outside the platform, Google has introduced direct export options for generated content:

  • Google Sheets Export: Data Tables created within NotebookLM can be exported to Google Sheets. Once in Sheets, users can leverage standard spreadsheet tools such as filters, formatting, and charts.
  • Exporting Notes and Reports: Users can also move their saved Notes and Reports (including Study Guides and Briefing Docs) into Google Docs or Google Sheets. These options are available within the Studio tool for more flexible editing and collaboration.

Availability and Access

The rollout of these features is categorized by specific user tiers:

  • Phased Rollout: Access began on December 18, 2025, starting with users on Google AI Pro and Ultra tiers.
  • Broader Access: The Data Tables and expanded export features are scheduled to roll out to all NotebookLM users over the following weeks.

By enabling the conversion of unstructured information into structured tables and documents, NotebookLM continues to evolve as a tool for managing complex knowledge and research projects.
