Daniel Žižka, the artist selected to represent Czechia at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in 2026, officially premiered his entry, "Crossroads," on March 11, 2026. The contest is scheduled to take place in Vienna, Austria. Žižka, a singer-songwriter and actor born in Prague around 2002 or 2003, began composing music at the age of ten, establishing a long-term involvement in the arts that led to his selection by the national broadcaster, Czech Television (ČT).
The selection process for the Czech entry was conducted internally by ČT, which received 260 submissions for consideration. The composition, "Crossroads," is characterized by a deliberate slow tempo and an enveloping, atmospheric musical quality. Lyrically, the track progresses from themes of ambiguity to explore deeper philosophical inquiries, specifically those centered on ecological concerns. This thematic focus complements Žižka's formal training, as he studied musical theater at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague.
Žižka is slated to perform during the second semi-final on May 14, 2026, at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, the venue for the semi-finals on May 12 and 14, and the Grand Final on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Austria hosts the 2026 event following the victory of JJ with "Wasted Love" in 2025, marking Vienna's third time hosting the contest. The Wiener Stadthalle, Austria's largest indoor arena with a capacity up to 16,000, will serve as the primary venue, while the historic Rathausplatz will host the Eurovision Village from May 10 through May 17.
The artist's professional output began under the pseudonym "Daniell" in 2019 with the single "Wrong." Transitioning to his birth name, he released tracks such as "Pierrot" in 2023 and "Talk" in 2024, emphasizing emotional vocal delivery and atmospheric soundscapes. The selection panel noted Žižka’s performance as technically precise and emotionally resonant, suggesting a staging approach focused on lighting and shadows rather than extensive spectacle. Czech Television confirmed that the entire media presentation will utilize a unifying leitmotif to underscore the artist's artistic trajectory as the Czech Republic seeks to build upon recent successes, including Mikolas Josef's sixth-place finish in 2018 and Vesna's tenth place in 2023.
