In Honiara, the Solomon Islands held a National Agrifood System Forum to address food security challenges.
The forum highlighted the "5F Crisis" (food, fuel, feed, fertilizer, and finance) exacerbated by climate change and supply chain disruptions.
The focus is on locally driven solutions, including heat-tolerant poultry breeds, feed from cassava waste, and renewable energy for hatcheries.
The forum also emphasized cross-sectoral collaboration and actionable partnerships for sustainable solutions. This includes initiatives like vertical urban farming and community-based solar drying technologies.
This initiative aligns with the Solomon Islands' efforts to revitalize its agriculture sector, including research and development facilities and programs to improve school nutrition.
