Peru Establishes Velo de la Novia Regional Conservation Area to Protect Amazon Ecosystem

10:42, 29 July

Edited by: Anulyazolotko Anulyazolotko

The Peruvian government has officially established the Velo de la Novia Regional Conservation Area (ACR) in the Ucayali department, aiming to safeguard a unique segment of the Amazon rainforest. This protected area spans approximately 14,400 hectares and is situated between the districts of Padre Abad and Boquerón in the province of Padre Abad.

The Velo de la Novia ACR is notable for its rich biodiversity, encompassing a variety of plant and animal species. The area is characterized by its diverse ecosystems, including cloud forests and humid tropical forests, which are home to numerous species, some of which are considered at risk. The region also features the Velo de la Novia waterfall, a prominent natural landmark that contributes to the area's ecological significance.

Establishing this conservation area is part of a broader effort to enhance ecological connectivity within the Peruvian Amazon. The Velo de la Novia ACR connects with five existing protected areas, creating a continuous conservation corridor that facilitates wildlife migration and supports the resilience of the ecosystem. This initiative is expected to bolster conservation efforts and promote sustainable development in the region.

The creation of the Velo de la Novia ACR reflects Peru's commitment to preserving its natural heritage and promoting environmental sustainability. By protecting this vital portion of the Amazon rainforest, the government aims to ensure the conservation of its unique biodiversity and the provision of essential ecosystem services for local communities and the broader environment.
